Here’s a classic camping food recipe that is SOOO easy to follow and can be made just about anywhere – the good old baked potato. It’s great because it’s so flexible and takes literally no effort. You can add a whole host of canned toppings to round out the meal or just some butter, salt and grated cheese and you’re set.
Ingredients:
- 1 Medium Potato (per person)
- Butter
- Salt & Pepper
- Any other canned topping you like (baked beans, tuna, chilli and so on)
- Aluminium Foil
How to make it:
- Poke a lot of holes all over each potato with a fork
- Smear each one with 1-2 tablespoons of butter
- Wrap in foil and place in hot coals for approx 45minutes until tender inside. It is best to rotate them every 10-15 minutes
- To check them for softness remove potato out of foil and poke with fork or cut with a knife, you can also carefully squeeze them if you have a thick oven glove with you
Make sure you remember to pierce your potato with a fork before wrapping it – this will keep it from exploding in the fire!
